Our Story

Modern Mom Advice started in the spring of 2019, when founder Jessica Park realized that her phone's Notes app had turned into an informal guidebook. After years of scouting family-friendly restaurants, mapping out stroller-accessible subway routes, and cataloguing the city's best playgrounds, she had accidentally built a resource that other parents kept asking to borrow.

What began as a shared document among a handful of mom friends quickly grew into a blog, and then into the site you're reading now. Today, Modern Mom Advice reaches thousands of families every month — locals looking for weekend inspiration and visitors planning their first trip to New York City with kids.

What We Believe

We believe that having children doesn't mean giving up on adventure — it means redefining it. A perfect Saturday might look like a morning at the American Museum of Natural History followed by dollar pizza on the walk home. Or it might mean discovering a brand-new playground in a neighborhood you've never explored. The magic is in showing up and being open to wherever the day takes you.

Every recommendation on this site has been personally tested by our team and our families. We don't publish sponsored content disguised as editorial. If we love a place, we'll tell you. If we don't, we'll tell you that too — and suggest something better.

Meet the Team

👩

Jessica Park

Founder & Editor

Mom of two (ages 6 and 9), NYC native, former elementary school teacher. Jessica covers everything from museum guides to seasonal itineraries. She firmly believes the best bagel in the city is at Absolute Bagels on the Upper West Side, and she will defend this opinion vigorously.

👩

Aisha Coleman

Contributing Writer

Mom of three, Brooklyn-based, and a self-described "budget queen." Aisha specializes in family dining guides, free things to do in New York, and getting the most out of the city without breaking the bank. Her monthly round-ups of free museum days are a reader favorite.

👩

Megan Torres

Contributor

Mom of one, outdoor enthusiast, and former park ranger. Megan writes about outdoor activities, seasonal guides, and day trips from the city. If there's a hiking trail within two hours of Manhattan that's doable with a toddler, Megan has mapped it.
